Schools in Pools - Sealord Swim for Life Initiative

Schools in Pools, in conjunction with the Sealord Swim for Life initiative, is the name for Bay Venue's long term strategy to help deliver swimming lessons for all children aged under eight in local schools in our community.

Learn to Swim and Survive here!

Sealord Swim for Life Initiative
Bay Venues proudly supports this initiative and work alongside Sport Bay of Plenty, Water Safety NZ and TECT to deliver the Sealord Swim for Life Sessions at our venues across Tauranga with the aim to:

  1. Increase awareness of the importance of teaching children to swim
  2. Provide the tools so that parents can teach their children at home or to help support learn to swim programs in schools or local communities
  3. Encourage children by making their learning to swim experience fun and rewarding
The Passport to Success!
As seen on "What Now", and our TV commercials, each child who participates in the Sealord Swim for Life initiative gets a Swim for Life passport to record all their achievements and learn about water safety.

Because NZ is unique we have developed a special identity to help us create awareness of the seriousness of this issue for our children: Kautiki, the swimming Tiki.  Kautiki will guide kids through their targets in the passport and provide them with water safety tips along the way.  The passport is to reward children for passing water safety milestones and gives them something tangible to relate to their journey.

Who can participate in this initiative:
There are limited sessions available for schools without pools or have a non-functioning pool for years 1-8 students. With the kind support of TECT and Water Safety NZ these are at a subsidised cost of $1.00  per child per session and these can be accessed by contacting Erin Kouwenhoven.
